Status: approved Member: Christian Peel Type: Meetup Estimated size: 66 Info URL: https://www.meetup.com/ethereumSiliconValley/ Rooms: Large Event Room Details: This is a Silicon Valley Ethereum meetup. Yan Michalevsky will talk on smart contract verification: "The famous DAO bug in the Ethereum blockchain employed callbacks to steal $150M. Callbacks are essential in many programming environments, but drastically complicate program understanding and reasoning because they allow to mutate object’s local states by external objects in unexpected fashions, thus breaking modularity. We define the notion of Effectively Callback Free (ECF) objects in order to allow callbacks without preventing modular reasoning. We study the decidability of dynamically checking ECF in a given execution trace and statically checking if an object is ECF. We also show that dynamically checking ECF in Ethereum is feasible and can be done online. By running the history of all execution traces in Ethereum, we were able to verify that virtually all existing contract executions, excluding these of the DAO or of contracts with similar known vulnerabilities, are ECF. Finally, we show that ECF, whether it is verified dynamically or statically, enables modular reasoning about objects with encapsulated state." -- https://events.hackerdojo.com/event/5802234445037568-yan-michalevsky-on-smart-contract-verification

In the past, companies had full control over the software used by their employees. Not any more. Today's workforce is increasingly autonomous around software selection and usage. Large companies typically have hundreds, if not thousands of rogue applications in play. In this crazy environment, the challenge of building and selling enterprise software is increasingly complex. Box Senior Product VP Chris Yeh reveals the product tradeoffs that he made over the years and talk about lessons learned. Use Promo Code "SDfriends" to get a 20% discount. Bitcoin is the world's first finite digital resource, a currency that no single person or organization can control - kind of like a digital gold. Unless you have a background in cryptography or economics or both, phrases like cold storage, hard fork, and segregated witness can all seem pretty cryptic. The collision of technology, business, politics and culture has contributed to the most divisive time in US history. Rational discourse is in short supply. It’s time to come together – literally and metaphorically – bringing into one room the cross-disciplinary and cross-the-aisle POVs required to drive change. Shift Forum is that room – don’t miss your opportunity to be there. Price: 3995 Link: http://forum.newco.co/
